Hearing loss at birth is often invisible. In India, newborn hearing screening is still frequently treated as "optional" — despite being as critical as other newborn checks. When screening is missed or follow-up fails, diagnosis is delayed until speech does not develop, often after the age of two — when the golden window for auditory brain development is already closing.
